Reflexology Consultation

Reflexology has its origins in Oriental Medicine models; that energy flows around our bodies. If the energy can flow freely then we are balanced and healthy. If the energy is obstructed, it creates an environment for illness to develop.
Our feet have over 7,000 nerve endings so reflexology can be a stimulating, sensory experience. Nerves are the body's communication system and by using reflexology to work specific reflexes on the feet, it stimulates nerves, improves circulation and rebalances energy throughout the body.

Reflexology can help to: Increase energy levels • Reduce muscular tension
• Relieve fatigue • Promote refreshing sleep • Relieve stress

A reflexolology session usually lasts an hour. At the beginning of the consultation a brief medical history is taken so that a treatment plan can be determined.

After a warm up massage, pressure is applied to reflex areas on each foot. Most people experience a deep sense of relaxation. Some points may be tender, but by working gently over these, the tenderness will usually diminish. The treatment lasts 45 minutes and ends with a foot massage using aromatherapy oils.
Essential oils can aid the healing process.

Afterwards any findings are discussed and it is usual for you to give feedback about how you felt during the treatment. Techniques that you can apply to reflex areas on your hands between treatments may also be given.

The frequency of follow up appointments depend on the reasons for having reflexology and are discussed at the first consultation. For specific issues, it is likely that a course of treatment will be recommended. Initially these will be ideally every
1-2 weeks, but are often shorter treatments. Reflexology has a cumulative effect and so each treatment builds on the benefits felt from the previous treatment. After a period of time (usually 4 weeks) treatments are reduced to 2-3 weekly intervals and then monthly for maintenance treatments. Everyone can benefit from reflexology and it is often used as a relaxing treatment to relieve stress and to take time out.

Generally, children under 10 years benefit from shorter 15-30 minute treatments.
Booking a 15 minute taster session is a good way of finding out whether your child will benefit from reflexology.
